Dominic Lawson hosts chess series

The BBC announced today that MCC player and Hamilton-Russell regular Dominic Lawson is hosting a radio 4 series on chess, Across The Board.

The contibutors include Lennox Lewis, Rachel Reeves MP, Hou Yifan, John Healy, and Natan Sharansky.

The series will begin on 30 December at 1.45pm, and run for a week.

Some might argue it is long overdue as it is the first BBC radio series dedicated to chess since one that ran from 1958 until 1964 on Network Three.

A Special Case of Stamina Needed in Chess

I am grateful to Teddy Bourne, captain of the Reform Club chess circle and Peter Urbach, the Chair of the Reform Club Library Committee for the press cuttings below.

Cuttings such as these are useful in providing more background on the Hamilton-Russell Cup, but I particularly like the comment from Mr Leif Jones who made an unsound sacrifice, because, after listening to a speech by Mr Asquith, two-and-a-half hours chess was too much!
